Robert Morris is a successful entrepreneur and a seasoned HIT professional who understands the direction and trends of the healthcare system. An accomplished Fortune 500 trained technologist, Robert has spent the past 16 years working in entrepreneurial ventures in healthcare. He is passionate about managing and improving patient outcomes in every provider setting possible.
In the 1990’s Robert was presented with an excellent opportunity at IBM as a Senior Support Analyst where he contributed research for 2 “Red Book” series manuals. It was this high visibility position within IBM that started his 16 year career in healthcare.
In 1997, Robert was relocated to Nashville by Community Health Systems. He was fortunate to be on the ground floor of what would become one of the nation’s largest healthcare corporations. Their mission was to take modern healthcare to rural communities all across America. Mr. Morris was part of a team that laid the IT architecture foundation for CHS to take their managed healthcare formula to underdeveloped rural hospitals and clinics in small communities from coast to coast. During his tenure he managed countless corporate projects and the onsite transitions and strategy of acquisitions for 30 hospitals, hundreds of ambulatory clinics, and skilled nursing facilities. He received a critical first-hand look at how technology worked in healthcare and how to make it better.
In 2000, Mr. Morris was offered a Senior management position to lead the technical consulting team with Tennessee’s leading IBM AS400/iSeries Reseller. One year later that company completed a successful sale to the nations largest IBM reseller .
After the sale, Robert joined ranks with several other area business consulting entrepreneurs at the local office of a national consulting firm. As the dot com era changed, that firm struggled with decreasing credit lines, increasing AR, and the ever changing technology landscape. With the company in trouble, Morris and 3 partners purchased the Nashville office and a new firm was founded and opened for business in 2002. The partners selected Robert to lead the company and its mission.
Over a 9 year period, Robert and his team managed countless HIPAA and PCI compliance programs, created thousands of services and application products for local, state and federal governments, startups and leading healthcare corporations. During his tenure the company grew from a startup to $8 million in revenues and 40 people at its peak.
In May of 2009, Robert resigned as CEO and joined the ONC sponsored/Tennessee Regional Extension Center (tnREC) as the MidTN Regional Manager. His primary responsibility was to help establish the tnREC service deliverables hire and train the staff, create Meaningful Use outreach programs and to recruit primary care physicians to adopt EMR and to reach Meaningful Use compliance as deemed by HHS. This role required an in-depth knowledge of the monumental Affordable Care Act changes that were impacting healthcare providers including HIE.
3rd Quarter 2011 Mr Morris joined ION IT Group as VP of Business Services. To date under his leadership the company has successfully launched a Security and Risk HIPAA compliance and auditing practice, Vital Connex and ProtectiveX, (secure PHI exchange application middleware).
In addition to his work with Ion in August of 2014 Robert joined the executive leadership team for the Tennessee chapter of Health Information Management System Society.
